Tuesday, September 04, 2007
If you're a professional in the trucking industry, you might want head
out to Valley Freightliner, Sterling,
& Western Star Trucks of Cleveland. Today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
the company is hosting an Open
House and Customer Appreciation Day. The event will feature food, refreshments
and door prizes, but
perhaps even more importantly, two new trucks will be on hand: Freightliner's
Cascadia, and the Sterling
Bullet. "The new Cascadia is simply an amazing truck," says
Annemarie Popik, spokesperson for the
company. "It's the most aerodynamic truck on the market, and it's
very friendly to mechanics, so there is
very little downtime." Ideally suited for construction, utility,
municipality and government applications, the
Sterling Bullet is the other truck, which will be on hand. It's a class
4/5 that's available as a regular cab or
a quad cab (four doors). The Sterling Bullet powered by the Cummins 6.7
liter Turbo Diesel engine,
producing 305 hp and 610 lbs.-ft of torque. The 6.7 is the next generation
of Cummins-designed cooled
EGR engines. It operates on Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel as well as B5
Biodiesel. In addition to food,
refreshments and door prizes throughout the day there will also be factory
representatives from Detroit
Diesel, CAT, Cummins, Eaton, Arvin Meritor, Donaldson, Pana Pacific, Alliance,
Alcoa, GCADA,
Carnegie Body, Supreme Body, Cross Truck Equipment, and Kidron Body will
be on hand with product
displays. "Later that evening we are also hosting the Fleet Maintenance
Council," says Popik, "so it
should be an entertaining day." The event is targeted toward professionals
in the truck industry, from
drivers through upper management. Test drives will be available for CDL
holders. Valley Freightliner,
Sterling, & Western Star Trucks of Cleveland is located at the corner
of Brookpark Road and W. 150th
Street, just off the W. 150th Street exit of I-480. The company first
opened its doors in November
1999. In an effort to establish a separate brand location for the former
Ford heavy truck product, which
had been sold to Freightliner Corporation in 1998, owner John Drakesmith
opened the Brook Park
location as a Sterling stand-alone heavy truck franchise. In 2001, Freightliner
L.L.C. purchased Western
Star Corporation, allowing Valley to acquire the Western Star Franchise.
In May of 2002, Freightliner
awarded Valley Sterling the AOR and franchise for Freightliner Medium
and Heavy Trucks.
